I am a CNPq Fellow and a lecturer at the Institute of Informatics, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, and a visiting scholar at MIT. Prior to that I worked as a Senior Researcher in the Department of Language and Linguistics of the University of Essex (2004-2005) and in the Computer Laboratory of the University of Cambridge (2001-2004).
I received my PhD in Computer Science also from the University of Cambridge (Computer Laboratory, Hughes Hall) in 2003. My thesis is entitled The Acquisition of a Unification-Based Generalised Categorial Grammar, and I investigate the automatic acquisition of grammatical knowledge from a corpus of child-directed transcribed speech annotated with semantic information, using a cognitive computational model. This research was supervised by Ted Briscoe.
